Starlink on the Road: The Future of Wireless for RVers

Anyone who RVs knows the struggle: campgrounds with weak Wi-Fi, and beautiful boondocking spots with no cell signal at all. Starlink’s Roam service brings satellite internet with you, so you can navigate, stream, work and keep in touch with family from just about anywhere you park.

Why Starlink makes sense for RVers

  • Coverage where cell service ends: Starlink says Roam lets you camp in remote areas with high-speed internet, and covers 160+ countries, territories and markets.
  • Quick setup and teardown: it connects within minutes and packs up quickly when it’s time to move on.
  • Flexible plans: Roam starts at $55/month according to starlink.com (at the time of writing). Billing is month to month, and Standby Mode lets you pause service for a small monthly fee while still allowing emergency messaging.
  • US and Canada or worldwide: Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB cover the US and Canada; Roam Unlimited adds international coverage.
  • In-motion use: supported on Roam plans in select areas.
  • Weather resilient: engineered to melt snow and handle sleet, heavy rain and harsh winds.
  • 30-day trial: Starlink offers a full refund within 30 days if you’re not satisfied.

The new hardware: Starlink V5 (and what about the Mini?)

Starlink’s newest kit, the Starlink V5, arrived in July 2026. Starlink says it is smaller and lighter, with greater power efficiency than the V4, and delivers up to 375+ Mbps. Notebookcheck reports about 12 x 15 in and about 2.4 lb, with average power of roughly 35–50 W, about half of the V4. That matters on the road if you run off batteries, solar or an inverter. Note that Starlink currently offers V5 only in select areas, and PCMag reports it’s tied to the Residential 100 Mbps plan, so for most RVers today the portable choice is still the Starlink Mini, which Starlink markets for travel, camping and RVing. A battery-equipped “Mini 2” has shown up in leaks, but SpaceX hasn’t officially announced it.
