We encountered a leak under the kitchen sink. We wanted it completely dried out and any rot removed. I ended up pulling out the shelf, carpet and side of the cabinet. My wife wanted to leave the bottom open for easy access to store things there. I put this board on the top portion and built a small shelf with an access slot to store the sink cover when not in use. That and the stove cover always seemed in the way when they were removed. Since the stove cover is only removed when cooking, I didn’t add anything special for it.
