Eclipse swarm

On Monday April 8th 2024, I was in Dayton, OH watching the spectacular show put on by our moon eclipsing the sun. I did not know that a couple hours earlier, one of my hives decided it would be a good time to swarm.

As you can see by the above graph, the scales took about a 5 pound drop at 12:20. It was also accompanied by a spike in the hive temperature.

I had been too distracted by the eclipse to pay attention to the alerts, and it was too late to do anything anyway. I believe the bees bivouacked nearby in my yard because when I arrived at 4PM on Tuesday, the last remnant of the swarm was heading out on it’s way.

This is my iPhone picture of the full eclipse. You need a really nice camera to get the good photos.
