Having been in electronics and instrumentation my whole life, I was interested in monitoring my hives electronically. This became more important as I started to travel more. I started using Broodminder devices to monitor weight of the hive and temperature of the brood area. It’s a little pricey to get started, but well worth it for the peace of mind. I have been able to detect swarms and broodless cycles from across the country!
Here is a picture of the Broodminder scale. It sets under one side of the hive and you have a pivot point on the other end. The weight measured is doubled.
This is an aluminum bracket I designed and assembled to provide the fulcrum for the scale and hold everything in the right place.
